Cheat: Japanese Map

The levels in Advance Wars 2 are longer and more open ended than the original Advance Wars levels. You will also be working with many different COs rather than the usual trio of Andy, Sami, and Max. There are many more maps where you start out with only unit production properties, like a war room map.

Each guide to a campaign level is separated into two parts: the general info and the briefing. In the general info section, there is the level name, official difficulty, perfect score difficulty, time limit, technique limit, and power requirement. In the briefing, we will give you a rundown and analysis of the level, usually with some key hints or details on getting a perfect score. So have at it... the battlefield awaits.

Cheat: Japanese Map

Go to ''Design Mode'' and click on ''Map''. Then hold the L and R buttons while it's loading. Once you get there, you should see a map with three Japanese letters on it made out of mountains.

Unlockable: COs

Unlock the following COs by doing the prerequisites:

Unlock Drake - clear the Green Earth Campaign
Unlock Eagle - clear the Green Earth Campaign
Unlock Olaf - clear the Blue Moon Campaign
Unlock Grit - clear the Blue Moon Campaign
Unlock Hachi - clear any campaign on Hard Mode
Unlock Hawke - clear any Campaign Mode
Unlock Kanbei - clear the Yellow Comet Campaign
Unlock Sonja - clear the Yellow Comet Campaign
Unlcok Adder - clear any Campaign Mode
Unlock Jess - recruit Drake or Eagle and Jess will be available
Unlock Lash - clear any Campaign Mode
Unlock Colin - recruit Grit or Olaf and Colin will be available
Unlock Sensei - recruit Kanbei or Sonja and Sensei will be available
Unlock Nell - achieve an overall A rank in Campaign mode
Unlock Sturm - achieve an overall A rank in Campaign mode

Unlockable: The Neotanks

Capture a specific city on each map to earn a lab map. You must then clear a hidden mission to earn unlock the Neotanks. Each force needs to do this to access Neotank technology.

Orange Star - On the mission Flak Attack, capture the city just north of your HQ.

Blue Moon - On the mission Toy Box, capture the southmost, westernmost city. It is the city on the island.

Yellow Comet - On the mission Show Stopper, capture the southmost, westernmost city.

Green Earth - On the mission Sinking Feeling, capture the southernmost city on the island towards the west.

Unlockable: Sound Test

Beat Campaign mode with overall rank of A.

Unlockable: Hard Mode

Beat the game on easy and go to Hachi's store and buy Hard Mode for 1000 points. Press Select when starting a new campaign to play hard mode.

Unlockable: Gallery

Beat the hard campaign to unlock the gallery.

View pictures
Press Select while in the sound room. You will be able to see several pictures from the game. Press Left and Right to cycle through all of the pictures (26 in all) or press B to exit.

In-game reset
Hold Start + Select + B during game play.

Deleted saved games
Hold L + Right + Select when turning on the Game Boy Advance.

Nintendo mountain map
Use the following trick to get to a map with the text "Nintendo" made with mountains. When you are at the selection with: Design Maps-> Map or CO, highlight "Map" and hold A + L + R for a second. The screen will turn blank. After a few seconds. it will be done.

Japanese character mountain map
Use the following trick to get to a map with the three Japanese characters made with mountains. When you are at the selection with: Design Maps-> Map or CO, highlight "Map" and hold L + R for a second.

Unlock Kanbei
Complete the yellow comet campaign.

Unlock Lash
Finish any campaign mode.

Unlock Nell
Get a rank of A in campaign mode.

Unlock Olaf
Complete the Blue Moon campaign.

Unlock Sensei
Recruit Kanbei or Sonja.

Unlock Sonja
Complete the Yellow Comet campaign.

Unlock Sturm
Get a rank of A overall in campaign mode.

Unlock Adder
Finish any campaign mode.

Unlock Colin
Recruit Grit or Olaf.

Unlock Drake
Complete the Green Earth campaign.

Unlock Eagle
Complete the Green Earth campaign.

Unlock Grit
Complete the Blue Moon campaign.

Unlock Hachi
Finish any campaign on hard mode.

Unlock Hawke
Finish any campaign mode.

Unlock Jess
Recruit Drake or Eagle.

Kanbei
Successfully complete all the Yellow Comet campaign levels to unlock Kanbei at the store.

Lash
Successfully complete all the Black Hole campaign levels to unlock Lash at the store.

Nell
Successfully complete all the campaign levels to unlock Nell at the store.

Olaf
Successfully complete all the Blue Moon campaign levels to unlock Olaf at the store.

Sensei
Buy Kanbei or Sonja at the store.

Sonja
Successfully complete all the Yellow Comet campaign levels to unlock Sonja at the store.

Sturm
Get an overall "S" rank in campaign mode.

Sound Test
Successfully complete campaign mode with any rank to unlock the Sound Test at the store.

Gold campaign menu icon
Successfully complete all levels in normal and hard campaign mode with an overall "S" rank.

Gold design room menu icon
Buy everything from Hachi's store.

Gold link menu icon
Get the war room, versus mode, campaign, design room, and battle maps flashing gold to unlock the link mode to flash gold.

Gold versus menu icon
Play all maps in versus mode. Note: You do not have to win on each one.

Gold war room menu icon
Successfully complete all maps in the war room with an "S" rank.

Blue Moon: Black Hole Army secret level map
The map to the secret lab level is in the unoccupied building across from Lash's headquarters in the Toybox level. Note: You must capture the city in order to get the map.

Green Earth: Black Hole Army secret level map
In the inking Feeling level, the secret map is found in the city in the southern-most city on the Western Isle. Note: You must capture the city in order to get the map.

Orange Star: Black Hole Army secret level map
In the Flak Attack level, capture the city that is located about two squares above your headquarters.

Yellow Comet: Black Hole Army secret level map
In the Show Stopper level, the secret map can be found in the southwestern most neutral city. Note: You must capture the city in order to get the map.

Neo-tanks
Find one of the Black Hole Army maps. Finish the missions that the map gives you. You will be able to build Neo-tanks, with only that country. This is also helpful for future missions in which you can use COs from other nations.
